A SERIES of free talks about the history of the Isle of Man are being held at the Promenade Church, in Douglas, throughout August.

Manx National Heritage has joined forces with the church to run the Monday night series, which has proven poular in previous years.

This year’s talks include the opportunity to delve into the Manx national photographic collections with Wendy Thirkettle, explore the Manx quilt and sampler collection with Yvonne Cresswell and find out about the island’s track record of protest and progress at the annual Tynwald ceremony with Hannah Gerrard. Katie King will deliver a talk about the Isle of Man in its heyday as a Holiday Island. Frank Cowin will present the final talk on Manx Miscellany.

The talks begin at 7.45pm every Monday in August. The first, about the Manx photographic collections, was held last night (Monday).

Refreshments will be served following the talks.

Talk schedule:

August 8: Holiday Island with Katie King

August 15: Manx Quilts and Samplers with Yvonne Creswell

August 22: Exploring Tynwald with Hannah Gerrard

August 29: Manx Miscellany with Frank Cowin
